DIY
There are many different kinds of DIY installations for solar and batteries. Essentially the solar is used to charge the batteries which then go through and inverter to produce an AC signal.
Off Grid
Many people, especially out here in California, are considering the purchase of an Electric Vehicle. There are many reasons to purchase and EV, but one the the things that people worry about is how are they going to charge it? They are particularly concerned with the energy cost from the grid, and they worry about charging over night or if the grid should be unavailable in a black out. One of the ways to overcome those objections is to build your EV charging system completely independent of the grid, or off-grid.Â
In this section, we'll examine the costs and payoff period for building and off grid EV charging system.
EV Charging Systems
There are basically three types of EV charging systems:
Level 1 (standard AC 120v outlet charging, slow)
Level 2 (240v charging, faster)
Level 3 (DC fast charging, not for home)
